It takes a special event to keep CTV Ottawa anchor Max Keeping away from his anchor chair.

On Wednesday, Max was honoured with a Doctor of Laws from Carleton University, in recognition of more than 30 years of service to the community.

In his address to the graduating class, which included many journalism grads, Max said the craft of journalism will live on.

"There are many social justices for all of you to achieve. Journalists, the story-teller, will always be needed," he said.

In typical Max Keeping style, he encouraged the graduates on their journey. He said although the media landscape may change, journalists will still play an important role in keeping the public informed.

"Fifty years from today, Ottawa will have at least 50 interactive TV news channels on the web and folks will be returning their video screens to the store because they've got problems with the mouse. Thank you. God speed. May you have magnificent careers."

Carleton's convocation ceremonies are set to continue through Friday. Almost 4,000 degrees and certificates will be conferred.
