50 kilometres.

In Ottawa, that’s farther than driving from Stittsville to Orleans.

And that’s how far Mark Sutcliffe is running to raise money for the United Way.

The CFRA radio host, avid runner, and this year’s United Way campaign co-chair embarked on Mark Sutcliffe’s Race to the Finish – a one-day fundraiser in which he runs one kilometre for every thousand dollars raised.

The goal: $50,000 and 50 kilometres.

It’s farther than Sutcliffe has ever run before. “It’s a cliché but I’m really just going to take it one step at a time,” Sutcliffe said before starting out. “And I know that there’s going to be so much support that I’m not even going to think about how far I’m running.”

The run is punctuated by stops at a number of local United Way member agencies spread out across town. “We wanted to finish the United Way campaign with a band and we wanted to showcase all the great work the United Way does in the community,” says Sutcliffe.
