Last year it conquered the Chip Truck contest, this year the Double Decker Diner and Dairy Bar in Manotick took top place in the search for Ottawa's Best Fries.

The distinctive red bus-styled eatery had the most votes from May 30-June 2 in CTV's Best of Ottawa competition.

Ken Dale from the Double Decker said his fries are distinct, right down to the way they're cut.

"They are a certain size, a little different than other fries, but it's what Cindy and the people here put into it," he said. "They don't let a bad batch of fries go through that window."

Dale refused to reveal his secret ingredient for the fries, telling us we could investigate all we want but we'd never find out.

This week Double Decker topped S&G Fries on Carling Avenue by four per cent.

  • Double Decker Bus (Main St. Manotick) (39 %)
  • S&G Fries (1845 Carling Avenue) (35 %)
  • Wes's Chip Truck (198 Madawaska Blvd. Arnprior) (12 %)
  • Fritomania (2442 Saint Joseph Blvd. Orleans) (7 %)
  • Glen's Chip Truck (Richmond Road/Island Park) (6 %)

Double Decker also finished third in last week's voting for Best Hamburger.

This week CTV is looking for Ottawa's Best Italian Food (just in time for Little Italy's Italian Week June 17-19). You can nominate your favorite Italian place here.
