A man using a niqab to disguise his face robbed a bank in the city's west-end Thursday.

Police said the man approached a teller at the Scotiabank branch on Baxter Road at about noon and handed him a note demanding money. The man was given an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene on foot.

No weapon was seen and no injuries were reported.

Sgt. Gary Cashman said police believe the man might be linked to other bank robberies where suspects used hijabs, the traditional head garb worn by some Muslim women, to hide their faces.

The man is described as dark-skinned with a slim build, dark eyes and bushy eyebrows. His hijab was dark blue with designs around the head and neck area and he was also wearing a long, dark blue robe. He spoke English with a slight accent.
