A man in his fifties suffered severe burns to his legs and feet after a water pipe exploded in his building.

Paramedics say they were called to a residential building in the 400 block of Laurier Avenue West around 8:30 Friday morning after reports a hot water pipe had burst.

A 55-year-old man was treated for severe burns to his legs and feet. He was taken to hospital in serious, but stable condition.

Residents in the building say the pipe caused water damage to hallways and several apartments.

More to come.
