A man stopped while driving in Ottawa's Glebe neighbourhood with a bomb in his trunk was sentenced to four years in prison Thursday.

Chad Baillargeon, 36, was pulled over by police on Jan. 4, 2011 on Third Avenue because his headlights weren't on.

He asked an officer to grab a bag from his trunk which contained his identification. The officer then discovered what appeared to be a bomb.

The officer found a green tool box with two paper rolls glues to the bottom and an alarm clock with wires sticking out, the statement of facts said.

All bomb components were present but a chemical analysis found the explosive couldn't detonate.

Baillargeon pleaded guilty to possessing an explosive device with intent to endanger life.
