Paramedics say a 21-year-old man is in serious but stable condition in hospital after being stabbed multiple times in downtown Ottawa late Friday night.

Police were called around 10:15 p.m. Friday to the area of Rideau Street and Mackenzie Avenue.

Paramedics said they were on scene within five minutes and “aggressively” treated the man who was found in critical condition.  Paramedics said they controlled “significant hemorrhaging” and transported him to the trauma centre where he had surgery. He remains in intensive care.

Police say they're looking for a thin Somalian man in his mid twenties, about six feet tall, with short, curly, dark hair and some facial hair.

Anyone with information, or who may have witnessed this incident, is asked to contact Detective Andrew Milton of the Central District Investigations Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5166.
