MADOC, Ont. - A man has been seriously injured in a hunting accident in eastern Ontario.

Provincial police say officers were called to the scene in a wooded area north of Madoc on Monday after a man who was with a group of hunters accidentally shot himself.

Sgt. Kristine Rae says the unidentified man was airlifted to a hospital in serious but stable condition.

There were no further details on the man's injuries and there's no immediate word what might have caused the man's gun to fire.
