A 46-year-old man is in the Ottawa Hospital's trauma centre with severe burns after he was injured in an explosion at a warehouse in the city's south end.
Firefighters say a dust explosion involving the dust collection unit ignited a fire at Masterloy Products Company, an industrial smelting company located at 5663 Doncaster Rd., just east of the Ottawa International Airport.
The explosion was reported around midday. Firefighters managed to put out the fire in about 15 minutes.
A male patient was treated for second-degree burns to his torso and third-degree burns to his back and legs. He is in serious condition in hospital.
Ontario's Ministry of Labour has been called in to investigate. Damage is estimated at about $100,000.
