A 25-year-old Ottawa man was sentenced Monday after he was found guilty of killing a high school student in an Ottawa nightclub slaying six years ago.

Carl Michel Belance was sentenced to life in prison after a jury found him guilty of second-degree murder in the stabbing death of 19-year-old Oladapo Agoro.

The killing happened at the former Sub Zero nightclub near the corner of Dalhousie and Rideau streets on June 7, 2002.

Witnesses testified the victim tried to break up a fight when he was stabbed several times.

Belance will not be eligible for parole for 12 years.
