Steven Helfer, 24, was sentenced today to 2 years for the near-death beating of a dog last October.

Helfer pleaded guilty to beating Breezy , a 2-year-old Labrador/Shepherd cross, with a metal shovel and leaving her for dead in a dumpster.

In her sentencing report today Justice Ann Alder said, "His actions towards Breezy are deplorable, barbaric, and cruel."

Helfer will get time and half credit for pre-trial custody. As of today, his sentence is another 361 days.

Upon his release, he will serve three years probation, and a 25 year ban from owning or having custody of a pet.
