An underwater search team has recovered the body of a 26-year-old Ottawa man who was killed when he jumped off a 50-foot ledge into a lake in Bon Echo Provincial Park.

Chris Curry climbed the ledge where he jumped into Mazina Lake at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, hitting several rocks on the way down.

Police say Curry was at the park with friends who were jumping from rocks at a lower level when he decided to climb farther up.

Friends watched as he took the fatal plunge. Although they tried to rescue him, they were unable to find him in the deep waters.

Expert divers were called in to search for Curry over the weekend. They recovered his body Monday morning, using an underwater robot probe in an area that is about 300 feet deep.

Bon Echo Provincial Park is located two and a half hours west of Ottawa, just north of Kaladar.
