The body of an adult male was pulled out of the Rideau Canal across from Hog's Back Park in Ottawa's south end late Saturday afternoon.

Police were called to Forest Hill Avenue at 4:45 p.m., on the canal's west bank near Prince of Wales Drive.

The man remained under a yellow tarp at 61 Forest Hill while investigators continued their work in the early evening.

A preliminary examination suggested the body had been in the water less than 24 hours, according to coroner Dr. Vishnu Patel.

Authorities have not released additional details.
