A 41-year-old man is in critical condition in hospital after his scooter collided with a car in Ottawa's west end Thursday morning.
Paramedics say after the vehicle collided with the scooter, the driver of the car crashed into a nearby light standard at the intersection of Merivale Road and Central Park Drive at about 7:30 a.m.
Paramedics treated the male driver of the scooter for life-threatening head injuries, a collapsed lung and fractures to his upper and lower legs. He also suffered fractures to his ribs.
A female occupant of the vehicle was treated for minor back injuries. She was transported to hospital where she is in stable condition.
The crash closed Merivale Road in both directions between Baseline Road and Kirkwood Avenue until midday.
Ottawa police are continuing their investigation.
