Ottawa Police have recovered a body from a quarry in the Cedarhill drive area.

Emergency crews arrived at the quarry around 9:00 p.m. Sunday night. The body was recovered by marine divers around 3:30 a.m. Monday morning.

Police have not released the victim's identity, but say he was swimming with family and friends when he disappeared in the water.

The quarry is on private property and is surrounded by signs that warn against trespassing. Despite the signs, nearby residents say the body of water is frequented by swimmers and partiers. In fact, the quarry is even posted on several cliff jumping blocks as a must see site in Ottawa.

"It's been an ongoing problem for more than 20 years, that I know of," says John Caris, a nearby resident.

"The swimming, ya that's one aspect of it. But it's the late night partying and the rowdiness that comes with it."

Residents in the Cedarhill Community say they have spoken to local councilors and even the Ottawa Police about the dangers posed by the quarry. Police say they have been called to the area before, and have laid trespassing charges in the past.
