A Toronto man is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of a 26-year-old man from the Belleville area.

Jesse Archer, of Trent Hills, died shortly after he was shot early Monday morning.

Archer was originally treated at the Belleville General Hospital and was later transported to Kingston General Hospital where he died from his injuries.

Police say Archer and a group of friends from Trent Hills met up with another friend from the Toronto area before travelling to Quinte West and Belleville to go out to various bars in both cities.

Archer was shot sometime in the early morning hours. Police arrested a man a short time later.

Michael Leonard Brooks, 27, is charged with second-degree murder. He will appear in provincial court by video on Monday.

Police say their investigation is ongoing.
