An Ottawa man is facing a first degree murder charge after his wife was stabbed to death in the city's second homicide of the year.
Mihalj Nemet, 56, is accused of fatally stabbing his wife, Tinde Nemet, 46, in their townhouse on Fisher Avenue Friday morning.
Police were called to a townhome at 1564 Fisher Ave. at 7:30 a.m. where they found a female victim without vital signs. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Victor Stanley, who lives in the unit next door, told CTV Ottawa he heard two screams coming from the townhouse at about 7 a.m.
"A blood-curdling scream from a woman -- worse than anything I've seen in any horror movie or anything like that. I'll never forget that sound," Stanley said.
He says those screams will haunt him for the rest of his life.
Neighbours say the victim and suspect lived in the unit for the last two and a half years, adding the two would sometimes have heated screaming matches.
Police say the stabbing is considered an isolated incident. The crime scene is near a Catholic elementary school and neighbours say the area is generally safe.
Police said information on charges is expected to be released on Saturday.
Nemet is scheduled to appear in court on Saturday.
