A 38-year-old man was charged with fraud Friday after police say $300,000 was embezzled from an Ottawa rehabilitation centre over three years.

Police have charged Scott Caldwell, a former client at Harvest House. After he got clean, Caldwell was employed as a bookkeeper at the Christian-based drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre. Police allege the money was placed in another account between 2005 and 2008.

Thousands of men have gone through the centre over the 29 years it has operated out of its Gloucester facilities. Officials said they are disappointed with today's charges.

Caldwell will appear in court July 14.
