Ottawa police have charged a 44-year-old man who is believed to have used several aliases with defrauding two elderly victims, and warn that there may be other victims in the Ottawa area.

Police say a four-month investigation revealed a suspect defrauded an 80-year-old man of $40,000 after meeting him in church two years ago.

The suspect developed a friendship with the man and eventually acquired the keys to the victim's apartment. Soon, police say the suspect apparently asked the victim to borrow money with a promise to pay him back.

Police arrested Lawrence Pigeon on Thursday after completing their investigation, which was launched by a complaint from the victim's family.

Police allege Pigeon used a false identity and apparently introduced himself as Steve Stanton.

Pigeon is believed to have used several aliases, including:

  • Leonard Pigeon
  • Luke Pigeon
  • Larry Pigeon
  • Jules Roy
  • Mark Stewart

A second elderly victim has also come forward with complaints of defrauding.

Pigeon has been charged with one count of fraud over $5,000 and one count of fraud under $5,000.

Police believe there may be other victims in the Ottawa area.

Anyone with information about Pigeon is asked to contact Ottawa police at 613-236-1222, ext. 5836 or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477 (TIPS).
