A 47-year-old man is charged with first-degree murder in the death of a Renfrew mother of two.

Dugald Barr Jamieson, of Renfrew, is also charged with breach of probation. He was arrested on Monday.

Ontario Provincial Police discovered the body of 54-year-old Carole Anne Brunet in her apartment on Hall Avenue, shortly after 1 a.m. Monday.

Family members told CTV Ottawa Brunet had been dating Jamieson for the last few years, adding that their relationship was volatile, and he had physically assaulted her in the past.

Brunet's neighbours at the Renfrew County Housing Apartment Complex remembered her fondly.

"She was very quiet, kept to herself a lot. She was very friendly when you did see her," said neighbour Angela Vos.

Meantime, police are continuing to ask the public for their help in the investigation. Anyone with information about the murder is asked to contact police at 1-888-310-1122 or 613-432-3211.
