A 19-year-old Ottawa man is facing charges after another man was allegedly robbed and dragged for a short distance in the city's west end Sunday afternoon.

Police say the charges stem from an incident on Chimo Drive where the driver of a mini-van allegedly pulled up alongside three men who were walking on the street and asked them for drugs at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police say when the men stated they didn't have any drugs, the male driver grabbed one of the men's cell phones and tried to drive away.

Police say the victim held onto his cell phone and was dragged a short distance until he let go. He was treated for minor injuries.

Ottawa police have since charged Ammar Almahdi with robbery, assault, dangerous driving, and breach of recognizance.

Almahdi was scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Ottawa police at 613-236-1222, ext.5116 or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-TIPS.
