A two-year-old boy and 50-year-old man died in separate drowning incidents in the region Wednesday afternoon.

The toddler was found at the bottom of an outdoor swimming pool at about 5:30 p.m. in the community of Mountain, located south of Ottawa.

Relatives who pulled him from the backyard pool performed CPR on the boy but were unable to revive him. He was taken to the Winchester Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

An autopsy on the toddler is scheduled Thursday at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario. His name has not been released.

Meanwhile, Gatineau police are investigating after emergency crews pulled a lifeless body from the Ottawa River near the Museum of Civilization earlier Wednesday afternoon.

Police say the victim is a 50-year-old man whose body was recovered from about four feet of water at about 4 p.m.

The man was swimming with a friend when he became distressed. Police say he was not a strong swimmer.

His name has not been released.
