Benjamin Taylor, the 18-year-old accused of second degree murder in the St. Patrick's Day stabbing of Scott Ledoux, 22, made an emotional court appearance Saturday morning.

His family and friends comforted each other and held back tears as the charge against Taylor was read.

Taylor sat quietly with a look of sadness across his bruised face.

When police escorted him out of the courtoom, his friends yelled, "I love you."

Taylor's next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.

He is accused of stabbing Ledoux to death at a rowdy St. Patrick's Day party he hosted at his basement apartment in Orleans.

Ottawa police were called to the party shortly after midnight and found Ledoux's body.

The tenants who live in the apartment above Taylor's said it was often the scene of loud parties.

"It's crazy, it's awful," said Madeleine Dumas, 67, who lives in the upstairs unit. "We tried to go to sleep, we can hear them arguing downstairs."

Dumas called bylaw at 11 p.m. to register a noise complaint, but nobody showed up. About an hour later, someone in the downstairs unit called 9-11.

Dumas said the downstairs tenants have caused lots of problems since they moved in, and she's had to call police and bylaw officers several times.

Ledoux's death has left his friends reeling.

"Scott was my best friend and an amazing human being who was loved by everyone," said Sara Barber. "What happened to him was senseless and not fair."

"I will never forget him."
