TORONTO -- Provincial police say a 78-year-old man is dead after an ice boat collision in eastern Ontario.

Prince Edward County OPP say the crash occurred on Tuesday around 3:30 p.m. on the Bay of Quinte near Ameliasburgh, Ont.

They say an ice boat was travelling on the bay when it appeared to strike a crack in the ice that jammed the boat's blade and caused it to come to an immediate stop.

A witness went out on the ice and pulled a man on the boat to the shore where first responders attempted unsuccessfully to revive him.

A post mortem will be conducted but police do not consider the man's death suspicious.
