Major changes are in the works for the iconic Fairmont Château Laurier hotel.

The intent is to build 172 to 200 long-term stay suites, an exterior courtyard and create approximately 427 underground parking spaces.

If everything goes according to plan, shovels will be in the ground in the fall of 2017. The 1, 2 and 3 bedroom suites with kitchenettes are expected to be ready in 2020 and guests will be able to still use the services of the hotel.

Public consultations will take place at a later date. As of right now there’s no price tag for the major construction project but officials say it will be a “significant” investment.

It’s also not known at this point how much it would cost to stay in one of the long-term suites.
