It’s been more than two weeks since an Ottawa man escaped from a massive sinkole on Highway 174 near Jeanne D’arc Boulevard.

The hole swallowed Juan Pedro Unger's car as he drove home.

“It was actually a bit shocking. Also for my daughter who saw it,” said Unger.

The experience left him rattled and weary about driving on that stretch of highway that has since been covered in pavement.

The highway has now re-opened to traffic after it was closed for nearly 2 weeks as city crews worked to repair a collapsed drain pipe.

Unger has only driven over the sinkhole spot a couple of times since the highway re-opened.

“I was a bit weary…there's a dip now. I mean its fresh asphalt and fresh road but they haven't made it smooth and flat,” said Unger.

And it’s not only that section of the road that reminds him of the sinkhole.

“Every patch of fresh asphalt makes me weary. My heart stops a bit every time I go over one.
