Emerson Curran, 20, of Ottawa, died over the weekend in Yellowknife. The RCMP says he had been involved in an altercation during a house party.

Curran, about to enter his 3rd year at UOttawa, spent the summer in Yellowknife working for a small airline.

His father, Michael Curran, the publisher of the Ottawa Business Journal released this statement:

“This is a loss of unimaginable proportions. Emerson was such as thoughtful, intelligent and loving son, brother and friend. Many months ago, in a conversation with his mother, Emerson expressed his philosophy on life and also talked about organ donation. In our immense struggle to make sense of this tragedy, we ask that other sons, daughters and families have a talk about organ donation. We believe that Emerson’s end will help sustain the future of many others. His gift is giving us a glimmer of goodness and hope.”

In Ontario, you can register to be an organ donor online with the Trillium Gift of Life Network.
