Life of Pie in Old Ottawa South has taken the cake as Ottawa's Best Bakery.

In just three and a half years, owner Kerry Duffy moved from making pies in her home, to a small storefront, to this full-fledged bakery.

"I grew up with my mother baking all the time," she said. "She's the one who taught me how to bake."

Word has spread about the variety of treats as far as Edmonton, where Karen Russell is visiting from.

"I love the pecan pie. I like all the pies. The scones are great - so are the muffins," she said.

Duffy said the reason she keeps cooking is simple.

"I think its the love of eating is what really inspires me," she said.

Other top nominees included Buonissimo Bakery & Deli in Ottawa, Da Bombe Desserts and Fine Foods in Vanier, Frank's Catering and Baked Goods in Nepean, Ottawa's La Provence, Richmond Bakery in Richmond and Ottawa's Rideau Bakery.

Bringing in a local favourite, next week we're looking for the best Donair or Shawarma.
