Laurier Avenue bike lane could open by summer

A bike lane could open on Laurier Avenue by summer if council approves a recommendation from city staff to go ahead with the project.

According to a report drafted after a series of public meetings, city staff chose Laurier Avenue for the lane because it's straight, flat, and already has a high volume of east to west bike traffic.

There is also no curbside garbage collection or bus service on Laurier Avenue.

If the project is approved, it will cost about $1.3 million.

The Bank Street Business Improvement Association has objected to the plan, citing the negative effect on business with the removal of on-street parking to make way for the lane.
