As Ottawa’s retail hub at Lansdowne Park begins to take shape, a parking mix-up in the area left a permit holder with two tickets in one weekend.

Tim McCarthy says he has purchased permits for the past seven years so he can park his second vehicle on the street in front of his house. He says he was furious to find a ticket on his windshield on Friday night and again on Sunday afternoon.

“Both for $55 and I'm furious because I pay over $800 for on-street parking,” says McCarthy.

New one-hour parking restrictions had been placed on Holmwood Ave. and O’Connor St. near Lansdowne Park. While McCarthy admits the “Permit Holder Exempt” sign was covered up in the spring, by-law never gave him problem.

When McCarthy tried to dispute the tickets, staff at Ottawa by-law services initially told him to park at marked exempt spots down the street.

In a response to CTV News, Ottawa By-Law Services Chief Linda Anderson issued this statement:

“A small number of fines were issued in error recently in that area and the city is in the process of correcting the mistake. The city apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

McCarthy says he’s happy to be off the hook for $110 in fines.
