Lance Armstrong is sending his best wishes to a group of Ottawa cyclists who were seriously injured when they were run down by a minivan during a hit-and-run over the weekend.

"I hope everybody there is doing well and we're all thinking about you," he said in a video blog, posted on his website prior to the 16th stage of the Tour de France.

"Be safe on the roads. Anytime you have the interaction between bikes and cars, you never know what can happen," he said.

Armstrong dedicated the 16th stage of the tour through the Swiss Alps to the cyclists, along with a woman fighting cancer in Montreal and MCA, a member of the Beastie Boys, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.

Armstrong's well-wishes come two days after five cyclists were struck while biking along March Road at Solandt Road in Kanata Sunday morning.

Robert Wein, 36, remains in critical condition after suffering severe brain trauma in the crash.

Fellow cyclists Mark White and Hilary McNamee are both in serious condition. The family of Rob Harland doesn't want his condition released.

Another cyclist, Cathy Anderson, is in stable condition after undergoing surgery at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital. Her arm and elbow were badly fractured in the crash.

The victims were transported to hospital after an off-duty bylaw officer found the cyclists and their gear scattered over an area that spanned 120 metres. Pieces of sunglasses, water bottles and other debris also littered the road.

Sommit Luangpakham, 45, was charged Monday with five counts of failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm.

He will remain in jail until Thursday, giving police more time to continue their investigation.

The Crown said they expect more charges to be laid because of the grave conditions of the victims.
