A 23-year-old Kingston man is charged with attempted murder in connection with an early morning cab driver stabbing.

Police say a male cab driver was stabbed in the chest with an edged weapon when he picked up a man at the intersection of Princess Street and Bath Road at about 3:15 a.m. Wednesday.

The driver managed to escape by fleeing the taxi cab. Police say the male fare then got behind the wheel and started heading toward Highway 401.

The man lost control of the vehicle near Sir John A. Macdonald Boulevard and the highway, entering the ditch. Police arrested a male suspect walking along the roadway a short time later.

The cab driver was treated in hospital for not life-threatening injuries. He is listed in stable condition.
