A Kingston man has been charged with assaulting an off-duty police officer and one of his relatives early Friday morning before attempting to evade arrest.

According to police, the suspect first began swearing at the officer inside a bar on Princess Street near Division Street, at about 2:50 a.m. The officer walked away, and the man then head-butted the relative and punched the officer in the mouth and forehead.

Police arrested the suspect, but he escaped when another fight broke out. The man ran a short distance before being stopped. He continued to resist arrest before being subdued.

There were no serious injuries reported.

Trevor Ryan Snider, 25, is charged with two counts of assault, resisting arrest, and assaulting a police officer.
