Veteran news anchor Kimothy Walker has chosen to depart CTV News Ottawa, following a remarkable 25 years with the station. Walker will say farewell to loyal CTV NEWS AT SIX viewers this Friday, March 28, when a special tribute will be paid to her storied career as part of the CTV Ottawa team.
“It is my privilege to have been a part of bringing the news to so many people during my time spent with CTV Ottawa. I am proud to have had the opportunity to serve as a modern-day storyteller, to share the lives of our viewers with each other, and to help affect positive change in our communities,” said Walker. “I was 20 years old when I first walked through the doors of CJOH-TV with big glasses and wild hair; and since I have been to the jungles of the Philippines, to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, to Kenya, and sped over the capital in a B-1 bomber.”
A graduate of the Carleton University School of Journalism, Walker began her career in news with CJOH-TV in Ottawa. She emerged from CTV’s student apprenticeship program, a legacy she has carried over the years as a mentor. During her 25 years with CTV News, she has acted as a reporter, producer, and as an anchor for CTV Ottawa.
“Kimothy has left a resounding mark on both the CTV Ottawa team and our community,” said Peter Angione, News Director, CTV Ottawa. “We are thankful that Kimothy chose to be a part of our family, and for her years of commitment and dedicated service. We wish her every success with her next challenge.”
Walker is a past recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for her work as a defender of child abuse victims, a United Way Community Builder Award winner for her on-going contributions to local charities and the CTV Amazing People Gala, and in 2008 was recognized as one of Ottawa’s “Forty Under 40” by the Ottawa Business Journal.
