Community members are reaching out to a Kemptville family who is struggling to rebuild after two of their rental homes were ignited by fire in less than one year.

"What are the chances?" asked Karina Bauer, who was woken up by the family dog when a fire ripped through her home in Kemptville early Sunday morning.

It's the second time the family has dealt with the aftermath of a fire in a period of 11 months. The family was only beginning to recover from another fire that spread through their home in October 2008. Previous to both fires, the family was unable to get tenant's insurance.

Although last year's fire was the fault of an under-maintained chimney, officials are still working to determine the cause of the weekend fire. Fire officials say the blaze is not suspicious.

In 38 years, Kemptville Fire Chief Tim Bond told CTV Ottawa he's never witnessed a situation in which two fires have struck the same family in such a short period of time.

Now, the family is living in a hotel paid for by the Red Cross and Salvation Army.

A fund has been set up for the family at CIBC. Anyone who wishes to make a donation to the Bauer Perrault Fire Fund can transfer money to CIBC branch transit number 00596, account number 1396536.
