A well-respected founder of one of Ottawa's most successful funeral homes passed away from a stroke overnight.

Lorne Kelly, 84, is being remembered for his integrity and efforts to help countless families through the difficulties of losing a loved one.

The first funeral home under his name was opened in a converted grocery store on Wellington Street in 1954. His business has since grown to six chapels across Ottawa.

Kelly died at his home in Ottawa on Thursday. A visitation will be held at the Kelly Funeral Home at 3000 Woodroffe Ave. on Sunday and Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral is planned at Saint Patrick's Basilica at Kent and Nepean Streets on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
