A frustrated father in Ottawa says his daughter was mistreated by police after the force was called in to help.

The party on Pelee Street in Kanata got out of hand Friday night. At about 1 a.m. police arrived to break it up.

"I tried to help the host sort of settle it down," said 18-year-old Keira McLellan, "I was trying to be one of the civilized people there."

But, according to McLellan, police didn't see her good intentions.

"The cops were handling me pretty tightly. I was pushed to the ground with my arm behind my back and the cop hit be on the back a couple of times."

McLellan said all she did to trigger officer's alleged force was put her hand on his shoulder after seeing the police become aggressive with her friend. As a result, she was handcuffed and tossed into a cruiser.

She says proof of her mistreatment are the bruises left on her body.

McLellan was charged with assaulting a police officer and is due to appear in court at the end of the month.

Coun. Eli El-Chantiry is chair of the Ottawa Police Services Board. He encourages the family to file a complaint.
