A Kanata daycare is closing at the end of the school year, forcing about 40 families to look for a new child care provider in a market that's already slim.

The Kanata Child Care Centre is closing as of June 30 after being in operation for 22 years.

The daycare is located in a building that is attached to a retirement residence.

The building was bought two years ago by a Mississauga company that is converting the entire site into space for seniors.

Since the announcement, many daycares in the area have received frantic calls from parents looking for child care starting this summer. However, many of the daycares don't have any additional space.
