A crossing over Highway 417 on Kanata was officially renamed Valour Bridge on Sunday as a tribute to Canada's war heroes.

The Castlefrank Road bridge passes by the Royal Canadian Legion's Dominion Command. Ontario Municipal Affairs Minister Jim Watson and Acting Mayor Doug Thompson, along with Legion members, unveiled the signs that highlight the new name for passersby.

"I know that each driver that sees these signs will take the time to honour the brave men and women who have fought for our country and the freedom of others," Watson said.

About 15,000 vehicles drive over Valour Bridge each day. Another 130,000 drive underneath on Highway 417.
