The 12-member jury in the first-degree murder trial of Kevin Gregson has heard closing arguments and is expected to start deliberation Tuesday.

Gregson is accused of murdering Ottawa police officer Eric Czapnik in 2009.

As part of his closing arguments, Gregson's lawyer says his client admits to manslaughter but not murder. He also reminded the jury the Crown attorney must prove a first degree murder charge beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Defence told the jury they are not there to judge unfortunate personality traits even though Gregson is crude and a bully.

The Crown attorney's closing arguments suggest the former Mountie's training is a clear indication Gregson knew stabbing someone in the neck could cause death.

The jury is expected to begin deliberations Tuesday.
