Jury selection begins today in a high-profile and deadly alleged love-triangle.

36-year old Gurpreet Ronald and 39-year old Bhupinderpal Gill are both charged with first-degree murder in the January 2014, murder of Gill’s 43-year old wife Jagtar.

Its alleged Ronald and Gill, OC Transpo colleagues, neighbours and family friends, were in a romantic relationship when Gill was murdered.   The Crown alleges the couple conspired to work out a plan to murder Jagtar Gill.  The mother was found dead on the living room floor of the family’s Barrhaven home.  Her daughter found her when she returned home with her father, Bhupinderpal, after buying flowers and a cake for her parent’s anniversary.

Not long after the murder, Ottawa Police arrested Bhupinderpal Gill and Gurpreet Ronald, charging the couple with first-degree murder.  The two have remained in custody and will stand trial at the same time.

The murder and alleged love-triangle sent shockwaves and shame through Ottawa’s Sikh community.
