A farewell tea is being held at Ottawa City Hall Thursday afternoon in memory of Jean Pigott.

The former MP and chair of the National Capital Commission is being honoured inside Jean Pigott Hall from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., officially starting at 4 p.m.

"Those who knew Jean closely always had a cup of tea with her, and you would never have tea without a cookie," said Pigott's friend Cindy Boucher. "You would never have a meeting . . . without a cup of tea and a cookie jar."

Pigott died last week at age 87 in the same building she was born in 1924.

A private family funeral has already been held.
