KINGSTON, Ont. - A prisoner is in hospital with stab wounds after a disturbance at Joyceville Institution, just north of Kingston, Ont.
Officials say a disturbance broke out Sunday morning in the recreation yard of the medium security prison.
Guards fired tear gas when inmates refused to return to their cells.
The prisoner who was stabbed is in serious condition. Seven other inmates are also in hospital.
The prison is in lockdown.
Provincial police have been called in to investigate.
