A 25-year-old man is charged with impaired driving in relation to an early-morning crash on the MacDonald-Cartier Bridge early Saturday morning that left another man in serious condition.

The crash occured around 4 a.m. on Saturday in the northbound lane, just on the Ontario side. The lane was closed for nearly six hours after the collision. 

The other driver, a 22-year-old Gatineau man, had to be extricated from his vehicle and was sent to hospital with serious injuries. His family requested his identity be kept anonymous.

Martin Bernier, 25, of Hearst, Ont. is charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm, dangerous driving causing bodily harm and operating a vehicle after consuming more than 80 milligrams of alcohol, causing bodily harm.

He appeared in court Saturday morning to face the charges.
