Hundreds of students at Glengarry District School in Alexandria are protesting the proposed closure of their school and walked out of class today.

The Upper Canada District School Board has proposed 29 school closures, 16 of them at the end of this school year.

The board says enrollment is down and schools are way under capacity. Today, students and parents were out in force .

One Glengarry parent and advocate says the closure of their school and Charland High School will affect 25,000 people in their community and a closure there will cause a rippling effect.

Other schools in the Upper Canada District School Board are planning walk-outs later this week and next.
