The Ontario government says home economics classes are part of a "back-to-basics" approach to education as it overhauls high school programs and requirements over the next two years.

Theresa Aqui is the president of the Ontario Family Studies and Home Economics Educators Association.

She tells Newstalk 580 CFRA's Ottawa Now with Kristy Cameron programs have evolved and must continue to do so.
