If you wanted to buy a pool or hot tub this summer season, now may be the time to do it. One pool company in Ottawa is offering a full refund if the temperature reaches 34 degrees on August 16.

"If we hit 34 degrees at the Ottawa International Airport on August 16, any deposits that were received of 25 per cent from Friday the 13th of July to August 6th will be eligible to win their purchase for free, for their entire pool or hot tub," said Dave McNaughton of Mermaid Pools and Hot Tubs.

He says Environment Canada’s forecast for a hot, dry summer inspired the idea.

“It's a banner year, the weather is really co-operating with us. I think everyone in the pool industry is excited about it, we certainly are very, very happy," said McNaughton.

Derik Violette, who is considering buying a hot tub, said the promotion is a good incentive to buy.

“That's pretty cool,” he said.

“Chance of it happening might be pretty slim but incase you do you're pretty lucky, you save a lot of money.”

CTV’s J.J. Clarke said the odds of the temperature reaching 34 degrees on August 16 may be good. He said there have been more above 30 degree days this summer than usual.

A similar offer was tried by a pool company in Winnipeg a few years ago and it paid off for those who bought a pool or hot tub.

McNaughton said Mermaid Pools is insured for millions of dollars incase the same thing happens in Ottawa.

“We desperately want people to win, it's a feel good promotion,” said McNaughton.

The promotion is good for all hot tubs as well as inground, semi-inground and above ground pools.
