Police are now investigating Ottawa's third homicide of the year after a dead man was found in the city's south end Thursday.

Police said the body of 31-year-old Peyman Hatami was found just before 5 p.m. outside the Asia Garden Chinese restaurant on Dynes Road.

Unconfirmed reports said he was shot in the chest.

"He looked to be a bit of a huskier fellow, didn't seem to be moving," said Pamela Yates, who lives across the street from the scene.

"I saw a police car pull into the parking area of the restaurant area, didn't think much of it until I saw his lights flash . . . when I looked over I saw a man on the ground with a man standing beside him, and immediately the police officer went to him."

Police said the incident doesn't appear to be random and no arrests have been made.

Area residents in Hog's Back said the finding is scaring them.

"It's more than just a feeling of being uncomfortable, it makes me fear for my life," said Crystal Grierson. "It's actually making me shake because I'm nervous."

"It's surprising and it seems like it's happening a bit more now," said Amy Couse.

An autopsy will happen on Saturday.
