The Naismith House in Almonte is back on the market.  Dr. James Naismith is the inventor of basketball which has grown into one of the world's most popular sports. The classic 1850 Georgian home sits on 45 acres of property with waterfront on the Mississippi.

The home has been owned by Elisabeth de Snaijer and Rick Edwards since 2002.

The historic home still connects with Naismith's family.

"Dr. Naismith's two grandsons have come and visited. One of them who lives in Texas still comes every year and they've stayed here overnight and they've become good friends," said de Snaijer.

The Naismith House has special heritage designation.

"It an opportunity to own a piece of Canadian history, "  stated Cindy Whitehead, with Coldwell Banker.

The home is listed at $ 1,195 million.
