A 90-year-old fire hall reopened as a new community centre in Old Ottawa South Tuesday following a $3.4 million renovation.

The fire hall, which is rooted in the community's history, underwent extensive renovations. It will now host a variety of summer camps and other community programs.

At one point, the city considered tearing it down. However, residents rallied and raised more than $300,000 to save it.

It took more than a decade to preserve the building, which was built in 1921.
